Mud Creek #3 (Mile 50)

  • 8 Guests

The first of three campsites at the confluence of the French Broad River and Mud Creek in Henderson County. Large, open, flat, and grassy (perfect for yard games!), our Mud Creek campsite has a simple river access, picnic table, fire ring, and elevated composting toilet. Everything you need for a relaxed night on the Paddle Trail.

All three campsites share the large grassy field and composting toilet but have their own picnic table and fire ring. There is plenty of flat space for tent camping and a few trees suitable for hammocks. Each campsite accommodates up to 8 people each. If you have more than 8 people in your group, please book an additional site.

The access into the campsite itself is on the downstream side of the confluence with Mud Creek. Start keeping an eye out for it on the right side of the river after you pass the Mills River confluence on your left. If you go under Butler Bridge Road, you have travelled too far. There is another campsite on the upstream side of the Mud Creek confluence that is owned by another entity and not part of the French Broad Paddle Trail. No paddle-in access exists. Please do not mistake that access for ours. Look for our signage.

Note that this campsite is on private land protected and restored by our friends at Conserving Carolina. Campers are invited to use the soil roads to walk around the restoration area, which includes former farmland re-planted and graded to mimic natural floodplain, along with three backwater sloughs created for the sake of improving muskellunge (muskie) habitat. Surrounding this property are private homesites. Please do not enter these neighborhoods and do not try to drive to the campsite.

Assumption of Risk & Waiver of Liability: By making this reservation you are acknowledging that there are certain risks inherent in outdoor activities such as paddling and camping. Each participant of this campsite booking agrees to release from liability MountainTrue, the campsite's landowner, and any partners or affiliates for any accident, injury, illness, or personal loss which might occur while visiting, or paddling alongside, this campsite. Each participant further agrees to abide by the campsite's stated rules and regulations and to notify MountainTrue staff of any safety concerns or management needs.
